Flesh Fly

Initially I assumed that this was another black Tachinid fly, but I was unable to find any Tachinids in which the leading part of the wings was black like this.  Instead, I now think it is the flesh fly Nyctia halterata (Diptera: Sarcophagidae).

Sawflies

A pair of sawflies mating: probably Macrophya monatana (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae).  The male is to the left and the more colorful female to the right.

Wood Soldierfly

My first wood soldierfly:  Solva marginata (Diptera: Xylomyidae).  It was on ivy that was growing on the stump of a recently felled tree.  There was lots of logs and wood-chips in the area.

Cuckoo Wasp

Yesterday I got back from a walk round the University lakes and found this cuckoo wasp on our living room window.  Possibly a Chrysis sp (Hymenoptera: Chrysididae).
