Hoverfly

A bumble-bee mimic hoverfly from back in early summer: a female Volucella bombylans (Diptera: Syrphidae).  Note the feathery antennae and the dark patches on the wings.

Photos taken in Whiteknights Park, Reading University grounds, Reading, UK, on 2010-06-20.
