Sawfly

A sawfly, probably a Tenthredo sp (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae),  feeding on hogweed flowers.  There are several Tenthredo species like this in the UK (T. notha, T. arcuata, T. brevicornis) but they are difficult to separate on the basis of photographs (see this discussion), so I will not attempt to take the identification any further.

Prehistoric Ripples

Fossilized ripples in millstone grit.  They were probably formed over 300 million years ago in the shallows of a Carboniferous sea.

Wainscot Moth

A wainscot moth, Mythimna sp (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).  Possibly Mythimna pallens, the common wainscot, but as there are quite a few Mythimna species that look like this, I won't attempt to narrow down the identification any further.  It was in long grass at the edge of a field.
