Tephritid Fly

One of several Chaetorellia jaceae (Diptera: Tephritidae) that I came across on hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium).  This is not this species' normal host plant which is knapweed (Centaurea sp), but there were plenty of knapweed plants nearby.

I took one fly as a specimen and later identified it using the key of White (in Tephritid Flies, 1993).

Photos taken in the Wilderness, Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK on 2014-05-05.
