Beetle

A ground beetle, probably Poecilus cupreus (Coleoptera: Carabidae).  The distinguishing feature of this species is the first 2 segments of the antennae being light brown.  I remember that the body looked distinctly bluish-black as it flew.

Photo taken beside the river Thames between Sonning and Shiplake, near Reading, UK, 2011-04-08.
