Green Shieldbugs

A common green shieldbug, Palomena prasina (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in its winter colour of dark green-brown.  Compare this with the bright green of the following specimen from spring 2010:

Soldier Fly

A female Sargus bipunctatus (Diptera: Stratiomyidae). The above view shows the orange first abdominal segment through the wings.

Fungus

Wrinkled crust fungus, Phlebia radiata, growing on a decaying log.

Tachinid Fly

A late-season Tachinid fly: probably Pales pavida (Diptera: Tachinidae). Some Eurithia sp can look similar but they seem to have black antennae, rather than grey.
