Blowfly

A female Stomorhina lunata (Diptera:Calliphoridae). In Africa these flies are important predators of swarming locusts so you might think that in UK they do the same to grasshoppers but, apparently, there is no evidence for this.  Instead they are regarded as vagrants.

Specimen collected in Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK on 2017-11-19.
