Hoverfly

A male Brachypalpus laphriformis (Diptera: Syrphidae). A fairly uncommon bee-mimic that is associated with old woodland.  Identified using the key of Stubbs and Falk (British Hoverflies, 2002).

Specimen taken in the Wilderness, Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK, on 2014-05-05.
