Tachinid Flies

A pair of mating Tachinid flies, probably Phryno vetula (Diptera: Tachinidae). [Identification confirmed by Erikas 'neprisikiski' and by Chris Raper here at Diptera.info.]

This is a close-up of the front end of the female.  Being away from the colour-distortion field of the dandelion, it shows the colours much more clearly.

Photos taken in Whiteknights Park, Reading University grounds, Reading, UK, on 2011-04-15.
