Cranefly

A female cranefly, probably Tipula vernalis (Diptera: Tipulidae) judging by the venation and dark patches on the wings, and the dark band running down the top of the abdomen.  I usually find craneflies awkward to photograph because their sticking-out legs distract my camera's auto-focus, but in this case the legs are nicely wrapped round the flower head, so there was no problem.

Green Tachinid Fly

A metallic-green tachinid fly, probably Gymnocheta viridis (Diptera: Tachinidae).  This species is distinguished from the other spiny-abdomened green flies of similar size by the fact that both of the veins in the middle of the trailing edges of the wing extend past the 'bend' (but not right to the edge of the wing).  The trailing edges of the wings are rather ragged in this specimen.
