Mining Bee

Spring is now well under way and, on my walks, I am starting to see more than just the occasional insect that was all I was seeing even just a week ago.  This is a mining bee from Tuesday, possibly an Andrena angustior (Hymenoptera: Andrenidae).

Sawfly with Prey

From last summer: a sawfly, probably a Tenthredo mesomelas (Hymenoptera: Tenthredinidae), with a snipe fly prey, probably a Rhagio scolopaceus (family Rhagionidae, order Diptera).

Capsid Bug

From last summer: a small capsid bug. Probably either Orthops campestris, Orthops basalis, or Orthops kalmii (Hemiptera: Miridae).  These three species cannot be reliably distinguished from photographs alone.

Mushroom

One of a small group of mushrooms that I found growing in the leaf litter beside a pile of decaying logs.   Probably a Galerina sp, possibly the funeral bell mushroom, Galerinia marginata (= Galerina autumnalis).

Crust Fungus

A toothed crust fungus, possibly Steccherinum ochraceum.  The teeth are really quite small and not obvious to the unaided eye.
