Yet Another Tachinid Fly

What I think is a male Billaea irrorata (Diptera: Tachinidae).  Identified using the key of Belshaw (1993).

Yet another species new to me.  I am finding that by collecting I am able to identify many more species than I could by photography alone.

Specimen taken in Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK, on 2014-08-03.

Tachinid Fly

An Eriothrix rufomaculata (Diptera: Tachinidae). Identified using the key of Belshaw (1993).

This specimen is unusual in having a large gap in its medial vein near the tip of the wing.  This gap was present on both wings and so was probably a developmental anomaly rather than a result of any damage to the fly while it was an adult.

Specimen taken in Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK, on 2014-08-03.

Another Moth

A brimstone moth, Opisthograptis luteolata (Lepidoptera: Geometridae).

This came in through our bedroom window one evening. I caught it and photographed it on the following day before releasing it.

A plume moth that I found in our living room window one afternoon, probably Amblyptilia acanthadactyla (Lepidoptera: Pterophoridae).

Another Tachinid Fly

A male Phania funesta (Diptera: Tachinidae).  Identified using Chris Raper's and Matt Smith's revision 5c of Belshaw's 1993 Key which was distributed for their Tachinid Workshop in February 2014.

[Initially I thought this was a female Freraea gagatea but the median vein is too bent for that species.]

Specimen taken in Whiteknights Park, Reading, UK, on 2014-07-26.
