A slime mould, probably Badhamia panicae.
In the following image you can see that, where the calcified sporangial wall has split, the spore-mass contains badhamioid (calcified) particles of capillitium:

A couple of years ago, I broke open the rotten trunk of a conifer tree and came across these. I think they are slugs eggs.
