A male hoverfly, probably Xylota sylvarum (Diptera: Syrphidae). Similar to but not as common as Xylota segnis.
The distal half of the hind tibia is normally dark in X. sylvarum but, as Stubbs and Falk point out on page 335 of British Hoverflies, this darkening is only visible from certain angles.
