Mon 2011-09-26 
On my walk on Saturday afternoon I came across this small orange fly prancing around the leaves of some coltsfoot plants, vigorously flashing its wings. It is a male Acidia cognata (Diptera: Tephritidae). The larvae of this species mine the leaves of coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) and butterbur (Petasites sp).
